Making the Channel Bowl

Making the Channel Bowl

Happy National Small Business Week. We are a very small family business (a husband-wife-toddler-team) crafting the Channel Bowl in Portland, Oregon. Along the road to production, I sketched the Channel Bowl countless times and many prototypes were made.

The contour of the channel was finessed and re-finessed as it relates to the spoon for smooth scooping. The depth & softness of the exterior dimples were sized to fingertips for touch and better grip.

It was important to balance form and function while adhering to manufacturing and material guidelines. Well, though the process is never quite done, this is one of my favorite shots of the Channel Bowl by Ellie Bayglov. Capturing one of the first bowls we made.
